UConn Fall Mini-Camp and Husky Cup Competition

This year’s annual UConn Fall Mini-Camp and Husky Cup Competition will be held Friday-Saturday November 12-13 at Hawley Armory Gymnasium at UConn. All of SKDI is invited to attend. The Husky Cup Competition is designed for people to compete in a more informal and less stressful environment - for people with little or no competition experience, for beginner black belts to compete with their peers, and for upper black belts to get much needed judging experience.  The main purpose of this event is to learn and have fun!

Please be aware of the following differences/constraints (some due to Covid) of this competition:

1. The competition includes individual events only.
2. Certificates will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in each category.  The “Husky Cup” is awarded to the best overall performance in kata and kumite in each category (so, if you do not compete in both kata and kumite you are not eligible for the bigger award).
3. Unless we have too many contestants, 1st and 2nd place in each event will be given the opportunity to move up and compete in the next level event.  (example: 1st and 2nd place in 8-7 kyu category may allowed to then compete in the 5-4 kyu event).
4. There will be no food or drink so please bring your own.

For Covid:

1. Masks are required by the University for all contestants, judges and spectators (i.e. everyone in the room).
2. Kumite for black and brown belts will be Semi-Free only. Only the final black belt match might be free sparring.
3. Participation by judges or contestants will be FIRST COME – FIRST SERVE.  We will have to turn people away if we reach the Covid capacity cap for the room.  So PLEASE REGISTER EARLY (including judges) to ensure your participation!  People who show up at the door and are not pre-registered will only be allowed to participate (or enter the room) if we are below capacity!
