Kyu Exam (In-Person)

Event description:
We will have our semester-end rank testing for in-person classes on Wednesday, November 29th for in-person students. Please let Sensei know if you are not available on that date and would like to schedule a make-up exam. There will be an end-of-semester dinner afterwards.

Please don’t stress about the test. If you’ve come consistently, you’ll be prepared and we will review it several times before the exam. Generally, at least two people at a time will test, so you won’t be taking the test alone. If this is your first test, you will do the basics listed under “8 kyu.” If you are doing Heian Shodan, study the basics for 7kyu; Heian nidan: 6kyu; Heian Sandan: 5 kyu; Heian Yondan: 4 kyu; Heian Godan: 3 kyu; Tekki Shodan: 2 kyu; Bassai Dai: 1 kyu.

Exam fees are as follows and include the certificate, registration with the Japan Karate Association, and color belts if applicable:
  • Beginners (all white belts): $20
  • Green belt and testing for green belt (6-4 kyu): $30
  • Brown belt and testing for brown belt (3-1 kyu): $40
Exam fees include certificate, registration with the Japan Karate Association, and colored belt if applicable. Fees can be paid by cash, Venmo (Craig Elkin) or Zelle (860-301-1151).
