JKA SKDI Virtual Spring 2021 Camp

Event description: 

As always, but especially important during these unprecedented times, our goal is to develop character and build friendships through strenuous training. All classes will be held virtually through the Zoom online video platform. The cost is $20 for the entire camp and the registration deadline is April 10th, 2021.

Class Schedule Overview:

  • To optimize instruction and your zoom training experience we will divide classes by rank
  • However, we expect higher participation than winter camp, especially in black belt groups where classes might be 50+ students
  • Each student will be able to participate in up to three classes each taught by a different senior instructor and at least once by Takahashi-sensei
    • Classes will be 75 min long with Q&A built in
  • All ranks will start with Takahashi-Sensei at 9:30am for a 30 min welcome and kihon, then will continue in separate groups by rank

Class Etiquette and Zoom Expectations:

  • Participants will be muted by default
  • Participants will be allowed unmute for questions at the instructor’s discretion
  • Chat will be disabled by default
  • We ask that participants modify their zoom display name to this format:  “FIRST NAME Dojo”
    • i.e. “[First Name] Yale JKA” for us
  • Please angle your camera to show from at least your knees to head  

Zoom Support:

  • We recommend joining classes via computer with webcam, but please join however you can
  • Please check which version of Zoom you have in advance and update to the newest version
  • Because all participants will be muted, “Speaker View” will optimize your view of the instructor, especially on smaller devices
  • For those with larger screens or who enjoy a feeling of training together, “Gallery View” will also work
    • Finally, going “Full Screen” can maximize your view
