JKA SKDI Virtual Winter Camp 2021

Event description: 

As always, but especially important during these unprecedented times, our goal is to develop character and build friendships through strenuous training. All classes will be held virtually through the Zoom online video platform.  Please register (with payment) by Saturday, January 9th, 2020.

    • Mr. Robert Jacobs, 7th Dan: Executive Director, SKDI - UConn, Storrs, CT
    • Mr. Eiji Toryu, 7th Dan: Secretary, SKDI - Boston, MA
    • Ms. Margaret Thomas, 6th Dan: Director, SKDI - Karate Spirit, Coventry, CT

Classes:

  • To optimize instruction and your zoom training experience our goal is keep the classes small (roughly 25) and divided by rank
  • Each student will be able to participate in up to three classes each taught by a different senior instructor and at least once by Takahashi-sensei
  • Classes will be 1-hour long starting at 10:00 am, 11:30 am, and 2:00 pm (Eastern Standard Time)
  • Each rank group will have three classes
  • The rank groups are (A) Sandan above, (B) Shodan + Nidan, (C) Brown belts, (D) Green + White

Cost:

  • $20 for the entire virtual camp (any number of classes)
  • Please send your payment online through Zelle to jkaofny@gmail.com  or Venmo @JKA-NY
    • Please add a message to your Venmo or Zelle Payment stating the name of the person your are paying FOR as: ” Name - JKA SKDI Winter Camp 2021”
    • On Zelle, our recipient name will appear as “Japan Karate Association of New York” and “Enrolled with Zelle® as PETE Erfani” who is our treasurer and one of our senior instructors
    • Almost all banks and credit unions have Zelle built into your online banking. Get started with Zelle by finding your bank. If your bank is not listed you can use the Android Zelle App (on Google Play) or the iOs Zelle App (in the Apple Store)
  • Please email us with any trouble making a payment
  • For households of three or more, please email us to inquire about a sliding scale discount

Class Etiquette and Zoom Expectations:

  • Participants will be muted by default
  • Participants will be allowed unmute for questions at the instructor’s discretion
  • Chat will be disabled by default
  • We ask that participants modify their zoom display name to this format:  “ NAME Dojo ”
    • i.e. “[Name] Yale JKA” for us
  • Please angle your camera to show from at least your knees to head  

Zoom Support:

  • We recommend joining classes via computer with webcam, but please join however you can
  • Please check which version of Zoom you have in advance and update to the newest version
  • Because all participants will be muted, “Speaker View” will optimize your view of the instructor, especially on smaller devices
    • For those with larger screens or who enjoy a feeling of training together, “Gallery View” will also work.  Finally, going “Full Screen” can maximize your view
